I just picked up the May 2009 issue of Consumer Reports ShopSmart magazine and was excited to find an article on where to shop online for fabulous fashion bargains.
If you’ve ever been to a designer sample sale, then you know what kind of bargains you can score on designer items. The following three websites (actually, there were four listed in the article, but one of the websites, HauteLook.com, was under construction) promise to bring you the same money-saving benefits for designer clothes and accessories but without having to leave your house!
These websites offer discounts of up to 80 percent and are free to use, but some are invitation-only, so ShopSmart got special URL’s for their readers. The sites were all screened by Consumer Reports WebWatch, their Internet watchdog group, to make sure they comply with ShopSmart’s guidelines for customer service, privacy, and disclosure of contact info.
In addition to the websites listed here, ShopSmart suggests checking out GiltGroupe (www.gilt.com/shopsmart) and TheTopSecret.com (www.thetopsecret.com/shopsmart); use coupon code “shopsmart” to save $15. Two tips: Sign up for e-mail alerts, and get to sales early to scoop up the best stuff.
EditorsCloset.com: (ww.editorscloset.com/shopsmartmag) Sales start at 9 a.m. EST weekdays and last 48 hours. Brands range from up-and-coming American designers to European classics.
Redtagcrazy.com: (www.redtagcrazy.com) This site sells multiple sizes of just one women’s apparel item at a time. Sales last an hour or two or until pieces sell out.
RueLaLa.com: Sales start at 11 a.m. EST daily
