A GROWING BUSINESS
Remote customer service is growing in popularity. Working as a home-based customer service agent means answering what’s known as inbound customer calls for companies like Walgreens, J.Crew and 1-800 Flowers, and other companies outsourcing their customer service needs to companies that hire U.S. based virtual agents.
Businesses tend to get higher quality work from at-home agents then customer service agents that work in a large facility at a cubicle where turnover can be high and working conditions can be substandard. Also, a company’s brand image can be hurt when customer service calls are answered by agents in another country whose command of the English language is less than perfect.
IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?
If your a person who enjoys telephone contact, is friendly and outgoing, this can be a great home job for you. You can earn anywhere between $8-$15 per hour depending on your level of experience, call volume, and the number of accounts you’re assigned.
The number of hours you work per week will vary between companies, however, you can expect to work around 20 hours per week, although some virtual agents can work up to sixty hours depending on a company’s needs and the virtual agent’s schedule.
A job as a cyber customer service agent is perfect for someone that doesn’t have the ability to work long stretches of the day without interruptions. As long as you get the job done, you can set your own hours to meet family needs.
If you are bilingual in Spanish and English, you are even more in demand. The Hispanic market is a large and potentially lucrative market that companies are striving to attract and being able to offer customer service in both Spanish and English is imperative.
THINGS YOU’LL NEED:
- An up-to-date computer, high-speed internet access, and landline phone.
- A quiet place to work without interuption or background noise.
- A pleasant phone voice and manner.
- An affinity for problem-solving.
- An unflappable disposition and an ability to stay cool, even when customers become dissatisfied or annoyed.
- Prior sales or customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills, insurance licenses, and technical skills are among the specialized in-demand needs.

I never knew that you could be a cyber customer service agent. This is great for me since Im at home and could use some extra money. How do the companies measure performance, or in other words does the company route more calls to you based on certain criteria? Do you get bonuses? How stressful can these jobs get?
Looking forward to your answers and future posts.

Hi Scott! Hope your wife has luck with getting a customer service agent job from home:)
Like most comments here, I never knew about a cyber customer service agent. That sounds like a cool job and I would love to find out more. It seems right up my ally.
This is the first time I visit mymochamoney.com and I really like this informative and helpful blog. I think many homemakers, students, and stay at home parents would be interested in opportunities to work as remote customer service representatives. What a great job experience to add to resume! This is the best home business idea ever. The more you work the more confident you will become. I thought about working as A Cyber Customer Service Agent before but I didn’t know where to apply for the position. The reason why I thought about this job was because I was a shy person and didn’t have a car at that time. I thought I needed a job that would grant me the not so stressful opportunity to work and learn at the same time.
Interesting. Ive been looking up information on becoming a cyber customer service agent, but I may have to wait a few more years until my youngest is in school. I cant seem to think of a moment in the day where its actually QUIET here. Even at night, it seems somebody is always having trouble sleeping or whatnot. Ive bookmarked this site, and am going to definately be back. I wonder if there is anywhere that hires cyber customer service agents to do data entry or something similar, in which case a noisy house wouldnt matter!
Hi Hannah,
You may want to look into being a virtual assistant if you have typing skills, computer skills, and general administrative-type skills. I plan on doing an article on this type of work from home job. However, there are resources on the internet that can give you some information on this type of work. Also, you may want to look into selling books from home. I do that and make decent money from it, and it doesn’t matter if the kids are screaming or not! Check out my article titled, “How To Sell Used Books On Amazon.”
Im sure everyone loves the idea to be able to work at home and make lots of money. A persons best bet would be to type the name of the company plus the words scam or fraud in the search box of your favorite search engine to be sure of its authenticity. If you get no hits or complaints, then this may in fact be that convienient job you are searching for.
Carigis,
I completely agree with you. You will always want to make sure that you’re dealing with a reputable company and have found a legitimate work from home opportunity.
I would love to be a cyber customer service agent, but I don’t know if I have the needed environment to work at home. I also don’t know if I have the right personality to succeed at it. On the other hand, I have been told numerous times that I have a nice sounding voice and I also am able to keep calm. Thanks for the tip on a home job I just might be able to do.
I have heard of homebased jobs being a virtual customer service rep, but it’s hard finding companies that hire. Thanks for posting 5 links to the businessed that do outsource to customer service agents.
I think that these is a great job for people that have great communication skills. The best thing of it all is that you work right at home with no disturbance and make good money/
