Tony Horton & The P90X System Motto
I bought my husband the P90X workout system for Christmas. Maybe you’ve heard of it and/or have seen the infomercials. It’s a revolutionary system of 12 sweat-inducing, muscle-pumping workouts, designed to transform your body from regular to ripped in just 90 days. My husband has been talking about it for two years so to “put up or shut up,” I got it for him.
Two nights ago, after a big pasta dinner and a couple of glasses of wine, my husband and I thought we would drink what was left in the bottle while watching the introductory video to see what the P90X system was all about. My husband was committed to doing this workout, but me….well, I hadn’t made up my mind yet.
We put the DVD on and Tony Horton, the extreme fitness guru of P90X pops up on the screen and starts talking about “muscle confusion” and how the P90X workout will transform your body. My husband and I sat mesmerized until I spoke. “I think Tony Horton looks like he has a plastic head with too much blush.” My husband replied, “Yes, he does but he’s great.” I asked, “What’s so great about him?” He says, “His enthusiasm.” I had to agree. The guy was completely excited about working out and being fit. It was like he was going to jump through the tv screen, rip you from your comfortable spot on the couch and start shouting rep countdowns at you. Honestly though, it was hard to get past the dyed hair, his too perfect plastic-looking head, and overly accentuated cheekbones.
Anyway, we watched the rest of the introductory DVD in silence, sipping our wine. At the end, the P90X motto came up on the screen: DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED. What a great motto I thought. So simple. One that I knew I could not only remember, but follow. I could write that down and post it to my computer without covering half the screen. This motto could apply to anything, but for those of us that have a home business, or work from a home office, it’s perfect. Because we need that extra motivation to stay on course, a motto or slogan is almost a necessity. I decided right then and there that DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED would be my motto for 2009.
Thanks, Tony Horton. I may not workout with the P90X system, but hopefully my home business will continue to get stronger with the help of your motto: DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED!
