I learned about fake David Yurman jewelry on eBay when I was searching for a necklace to go with the David Yurman bracelet and David Yurman ring my husband bought me. The ring is an 11mm Prasiolite Albion ring that I got as a birthday gift, and the matching David Yurman bracelet was a gift to celebrate our anniversary. I usually reserve these pieces to be worn for special occasions.
When I wanted to add to this “collection,” I researched eBay as a potential place to purchase a necklace. What I found in doing my research, were plenty of unscrupulous sellers on eBay that are passing off fake David Yurman jewelry as the real thing to unsuspecting buyers. Fortunately, not all sellers of designer jewelry on eBay are shady.
How to Tell Fake David Yurman Jewelry on eBay
I read through comments on forums from people who have purchased fake David Yurman jewelry on eBay and there are some things you can look for if you are considering purchasing D.Y. jewelry on eBay.
This information is not to discourage you from buying David Yurman jewelry on eBay because in fact there’s plenty of authentic David Yurman rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings on eBay. It’s simply to inform you about the fakes that are being sold on eBay. I am offering information that I learned so you can make a wise decision and not get scammed. Even the fakes can be very expensive, and you don’t want to throw your money away on a copy of the real deal!

Signs of Fake David Yurman Jewelry:
- If you find the David Yurman jewelry you want to buy on eBay for hundreds of dollars less. Make sure to do your research first. Go to a reputable jewelry store in person or online and know the real price of the item you wish to purchase.
- Watch out for fuzzy, unclear pictures or photos taken from far away. If the photo is not clear, ask the seller to send a clear picture. If they make up some excuse that their camera hasn’t been working right, or they tell you they can’t get a picture for some reason, move on.
- A photo that looks like a stock photo perhaps from the David Yurman website itself.
- A seller with multiple listings for the same item for sale.
- Poor feedback or very little feedback.
- No response when you try to email them.
- Poor customer service if they include a phone number and you aren’t able to contact them.
- The seller doesn’t include any contact information at all.
- The seller doesn’t offer a money-back guarantee.
- If a photo is a close-up of the item, look at the diamonds. If they are cloudy and lack radiance, this is most likely a fake.
- Larger than normal shanks on the ring–larger than what is on an authentic David Yurman ring.
How to Find AUTHENTIC David Yurman Jewelry on eBay
Finding authentic David Yurman jewelry on eBay is not as hard as you may think. I have my own methods of finding real designer jewelry on eBay that I will share with you. However, if you would like to do your own research, this is how I go about doing it.
Visit eBay
Go to eBay and sign in. If you don’t have an eBay account yet, you can SIGN UP HERE.
Conduct a David Yurman Jewelry Search
Enter, “Authentic David Yurman [insert jewelry type, i.e., “ring”] and click “Advanced” next to the blue Search button.
Next, click on “Items in stores” on the left menu under Stores. I like to know that the seller has a commitment to selling on eBay by having spent the time to set up a store.
Now scroll to the bottom of the page where you see, “Sort by” and choose “Price + Shipping: highest first” and click Search.
I know we are searching eBay for D.Y. jewelry in order to get a good deal, however, the authentic pieces are still going to be on the higher side in terms of price.
Scan the Results Page
Now scan the page(s) for the item you are interested in that also has a “top-rated plus” emblem next to it like this:
Click on this item. You’ll be taken to the item description page. This is where you double check the feedback rating and number of feedbacks acquired. Also, whether or not returns are accepted and if the seller is a Longtime member of eBay.
Gather Information
Next, check out the seller’s store. They may include information about themselves here.
If they are a jeweler, they will absolutely tell you and their items are most likely authentic. I especially like family businesses with a physical store. If they are not a jeweler, they may be a collector of D.Y. jewelry. Their pictures will be of individual pieces that they are selling off. This is also a good sign that this seller is offering authentic David Yurman jewelry and not fakes.
Review Seller’s Feedback
Look at the feedback and read what others have to say. Look to see that people specifically mention the David Yurman jewelry they bought. Good feedback could be about anything that was purchased, so make sure you read about specific D.Y. items purchased. Below are examples of good customer feedback:
Email the Seller
Email the seller and ask about their return or exchange policy if it is not stated or is not clear. Take note of how long it takes the seller to answer your question and the tone of the return email. If they do include a phone number, call them and ask them about the piece that interests you. Tell them of your concerns about fake jewelry being sold on eBay and ask about their guarantees.
Decision Time
Lastly, if you follow all these tips and feel confident that you are purchasing from a reputable seller with a return and/or exchange policy, then go ahead and make your purchase. Many honest eBay sellers exist. You just have to do your homework.
If you want to get started finding the best, reputable sellers of authentic David Yurman jewelry right now check out the listings below. it would be more helpful to provide Yurman hallmarks. The above would apply to any jewelry.

Hi, the ebay user “bidandshoppe” notoriously sells high end fakes. I was about to make a purchase from them because I read your post. I grew concerned when looking at some of the stampings on their items. One item appeared to have “928” stamped instead of “925” and on the piece I was interested in the “5” in “925” was bigger than the rest of the numbers. I did a bit more sleuthing and uncovered this:

I’m sure you were unaware but just wanted to share so others stumbling upon your post didn’t end up purchasing from this seller.

I noticed that yurman bracelets are getting made from cheaper materials.. have you noticed this?
Melissa Miller says
No…I haven’t noticed this. Do you have any information on what materials are being used?
Wow! Thanks for sharing and bringing this to my attention!
Thanks for the great tips for David Yurman lovers. I’ve been able to find many nice real David Yurman pieces on Ebay over the years, but I’ve also been duped. If you feel you have been cheated, use you rights with ebay selling policies to get your money back. Ebay has a time limit to dispute, but you can also use PayPal. PayPal has a longer timeframe to file a dispute than Ebay. So, if Ebay fails, then seek a refund through PayPal. Also, don’t feel embarrassed if you get cheated. Use it as a learning experience. There are so many dishonest sellers on Ebay cheating people out of their money!!
Tips I’ve used beyond Melissa’s points: Look at the prongs surrounding the diamonds. Typically with Albion style, the prongs should be slanted. Make sure there are actually prongs there! Fake items have stones set in a hole (no prongs). Compare ebay items with pictures on the David Yurman website or Nordstroms/Neimans/Saks/TheRealReal/Fashionphile. If there is in item that you particularly want to find, go to a the store and look its details, so you know what you’re comparing. Research and compare the gram weights of the items. TheRealReal often provides weights of older items. Most fakes aren’t as heavy as the real David Yurman. Buy a diamond tester and test the diamonds when you receive everything! Buy a jeweler’s loupe to view small details. Start studying the David Yurman hallmarks because the hallmarks change over the years. Start studying different stones that are used with each collection and learn each stone’s true color shade. Some of the fakes are very obvious if you learn these. For instance, the classic cable bracelet does not come in bright green or peridot. It is made in prasiolite, which is a very light and faint green. Understand there are DY superfakes on ebay with real stones and real metals. You must look at the fine details. Lastly, don’t be too desperate for a deal or piece of jewelry…you will probably get cheated.
There are a ton of beaded bracelets that are adjustable in length. I purchased one and then asked the seller about authenticity and she refunded my mo way without a response. I “won” the bid for another one and asked about authenticity. I said that the adjustable beaded bracelets aren’t on the website. They said it’s an old style- about 20 years old. I think they took the item out of my cart! So my guess is that both of these are fake 🤷🏻♀️
When I requested a return the seller never responded. So EBay closed the return. I complained and got nowhere, Ebaynever even responded to my report when asked if I was satisfied. The “gold” rubbed off in three days and it was them I realised I had a fake. Nil points to EBay as they just let them trade on anyway.
Hi, you cannot request a phone number from a seller or eBay or request that eBay give you said sellers phone number. This is not allowed. If you purchase an item on eBay and then question the authenticity of the David Yurman jewelry, you can PM (private message) the seller, but trying to contact the seller by phone number is frowned on. I would advise the buyer to take their purchased item to their local jewelry store & have the Gemologist validate it, if you have any questions. I believe the only one in a transaction that get a phone number would be the seller, (to touch base if the buyer hasn’t paid). And if you are told by your Gemologist that the item is not genuine, then you can open a money-back guarantee case on eBay to return the item and get your money back. I hope this helps.
Number 1: don’t purchase from anyone who uses stock photos! You want to know what you are really getting and see it with your own eyes! Or you are just setting yourself up for heartache!
