Could An Online Garage Sale Be Your Ticket To Quick Cash?
So you’ve finally cleaned out your clutter, but you’ve been procrastinating about having a garage sale. You’re not excited about the preparation of setting everything up the day before, placing price tags on everything, getting in the mindset to haggle with everyone, and then having to deal with the items that don’t sell.
You thought about going the eBay route, but that takes time to take pictures and list items (I personally love eBay, but I know it’s not for everyone). What if the items don’t sell? You’d be stuck with the insertion fees. Plus, you would have to wait up to a week or more to collect your money from the items you did sell, AND you would have to ship them.
You thought about selling your things on Craigslist, but something about Craigslist doesn’t sit well with you. Too many people from too many neighboring cities with potentially bad intentions in mind–you’ve heard the stories.
Well, how about trying an online yard or garage sale? What is this and how do you go about it? It’s easy! Here’s what you do:
Just go to Yahoo Groups and search for “online garage sale” or “online yard sale” plus your county or city in the search box. You may have to play around with the search terms to see what comes up, but you should be able to find an online yard sale or garage sale group near your home. I live in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The Yahoo Group for my area is called ChesterCountyYardSale.
If you can’t find a Group, you could always start your own!
You will have to read your individual group’s listing policy to find out how to list items to sell, and what is and what isn’t allowed to be sold, but for the most part, it’s pretty straightforward. You list your items with prices and pictures, people email you if they are interested, and you arrange a time for pickup and cash collection.
You can also list your items on multiple online garage and yard sale sites for maximum exposure.
So if you need to make some extra cash in a flash and don’t want to have a real garage sale, or list on eBay or Craigslist, check out online yard sale and garage sale groups on Yahoo. This could be the way to go!
