I recently found out about a man who sells over $40,000 of a product he makes from a workshop in his backyard. He isn’t a skilled carpenter or a popular artist. Just someone who is particularly good at one of his hobbies, and thought that maybe, just maybe, he could turn this hobby into a sustainable business. He did his research to find a product that he could build, analyzed his competition so he could price his product right, and spent a little money online advertising his product with the right keywords that people were searching for. Guess what? It worked.
I recently started following Jonathan Leger at JonathanLeger.com. The man who sells over $40,000 of a product he builds in his backyard is Jonathan’s brother. I really enjoyed reading Jonathan’s story about his brother that’s posted on Jonathan’s blog titled, “Selling Physical Products Online.” This is part 1 of a 2 part series that I highly encourage you to read.
I learned so much from Jonathan from this one post because he makes it seem so simple to promote a product that you sell–whether it’s something you’ve built yourself, or someone else’s product you represent. Now obviously there’s research involved. The easy part I’m referring to is the online part. The part where Jonathan explains in the simplest way, of how to go about promoting your product through various means online.
After reading Jonathan’s part 1 of this post, I immediately had to read, “Selling Physical Products Online (Part 2 of 2)”. I think you’ll enjoy reading Jonathan’s posts. For some reason, I found it inspirational; like there’s hope out there for anyone that wants to turn a hobby into a cash-generating business.
Jonathan’s brother did not stumble into his business by dumb luck. He did his research and he worked hard. However, as we all know, hard work and dedication usually pay off.
